This work expresses the spirit of Beijing’s literati in the history of a hundred years ago (specifically the 20th period of the Republic of China), and I find that they have something in common with today’s literati,and one of the distinctive focuses is the loneliness of the spirit, and yet this loneliness has its rainbow in it – their works of art. The Palimpsest series is to present the spiritual loneliness of today’s China, which is almost never to be regained after being disconnected from the spirit of traditional Chinese culture, as well as the anxiety, depression, desires, and bewilderment of many people’s lives at this moment, which rises to the pain of loneliness of not being able to form a dialog with the outside world and not being able to form an action. However, in this lonely pain there is a hope- observer’s point of view. Recording the present from the observer’s eye, the present will become “a history” because of the work. Since there is a saying that “history can be objective but mainly subjective”, then “a history” can also be transformed into “a kind of art history”, which I am using to record our time, and to think and explore today’s Beijing.
The audience will hear the sound theater performance of Shen Congwen, one of the most outstanding modern Chinese literary figures, consisting of a combination of novels, letters and other research materials in specific streets and historical sites, and enter a period of history in the sound landscape, entering those moments that are engraved in the heart and soul of the individual as well as the society. The audience will be guided by the recording instructions to re-observe these historical sites, simultaneously generating a multi-layered space of visual, auditory, and tactile psychological sensations. During the journey, the viewer is easily to participate at certain locations, taking pictures and interacting with different people. The thrill experienced by the viewer does not come from the applause of other passersby, nor from any exciting live images in front of them, but from the interesting experience of experiencing the psychological reality blurring the immediate reality at this moment inside, accomplished through the walk.
The synthesis of “historical and contemporary” feelings through different media forms the production process of this work. The “psychological reality” of the sound performance and the “visual reality” of passing through the real world at this moment constitute a double imagination of history.
This kind of creation requires a focus on feeling myself, I pitch my feelings and discoveries to the viewer, and I have no purpose as to what kind of mental space they will reconnect to in themselves, I have only one purpose: to pass my discoveries on to them, and wait for them to discover and feed back to me once again. I reconnect with my own energy in this way.

作品介绍:
这个作品表现的是北京在一百年前的历史中的(特指民国20时期)文人精神,我发现他们和今天的文人有共通之处,其中一个鲜明的焦点就是精神寂寞,然而这寂寞中又有它的彩虹——他们的艺术作品。 故都系列,是为了呈现今天的中国在和传统中国文化的精神断联后,几乎是永不复得的精神上的寂寞,以及许多人此刻生活里的焦虑、抑郁、欲望和茫然的心情,它上升为无法与外界形成对话以及无法构成行动的孤独的痛苦。然而,在这孤独的痛苦中又包含了一种希望的——观察者视角。从观察者的角度记录当下,当下会因为作品而成为“一种历史”,既然有“历史可以是客观的,但主要是主观的”这一种说法,那么“一种历史”也可以转变为“一种艺术史”,我在用它记录我们的时代,也用它来深入地思考和探索今天的北京。
观众将在特定的街巷和历史遗迹中,听到中国近现代最出色的文学家沈从文的由小说、书信等研究材料共同组成的声音剧场表演,在声音的风景中进入一段历史,进入那些既是个人的,也是社会的刻骨铭心的时刻。观众会在录音指令的引导下,重新观察这些历史遗迹,同时产生视觉、听觉、触觉的多层心理感受空间。路程中,观众只需要在某些位置参与进来,拍照并和不同的人互动。观众体验的快感不是来自其他路人的掌声,也不是眼前什么刺激性的现场画面,而是来自内心此刻体验到的心理现实足以模糊眼前现实的有趣体验,通过行走来完成。
用不同媒介对“历史的也是当下的”的感受进行综合,形成了这个作品的制作工艺。声音表演带来的“心理真实”和此刻路过现实世界的“视觉现实”,构成了对历史的双重想象。
这种创作需要将重心放在感受自己,我把我的感受和发现投递给观众,至于他们是否会连接到自身的什么样的心理空间,我没有目的,我只有一个目的:把我的发现传递给他们,等待他们的发现并再一次反馈给我。我用这样的方式和自己的能量重新连接。
